Action Research - Assisting Teachers to Engage in Quality Teaching and Learning
Action research is the study of a social situation with a view to improving the quality of action within it (Cardno and Piggot-Irvine, 1991). At St Andrews Middle School we have embarked on a journey with the vision of improving learning opportunities and achievement levels for students as well as increase professional satisfaction. We are in the second year of modifying internal structures, appraisal and developing a process which will enable teachers to become reflective practitioners. All staff at our school are committed to carrying out action research projects and are supported by the internal structures we have put in place. We have used Cardno’s writings to guide our development of a reflective learning community within the school. My presentation above explores our journey with Action Research and how other schools may implement action research at their school.
